RENAISSANCE OF A LEGEND

Greding (Germany), The 1958 season was a groundbreaking one for the Formula 1 World Championship. For the first time not only the drivers but also the teams were in contention for a title. The aim of the new constructors’ crown was to reward outstanding team and car performance, brilliant technical implementation and consistency over a season – as well as the most ingenious exploitation of the regulations.

Among the teams in contention for this prestigious new prize were Ferrari, Cooper, BRM and Maserati. And while Stirling Moss missed the drivers’ crown by one point due to the terrible circumstances in the last Grand Prix of the season in Morocco, the first ever F1 World Championship constructors’ title went to British team VANWALL, thanks to the efforts of Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks and Stuart Lewis-Evans. The title meant not only prestige for the marque founded by British industrialist Tony VANDERVELL, but also financial benefits.

Bernie Ecclestone: “In 1958 there was a bitter battle for the first constructors’ title in the Formula 1 World Championship between VANWALL and Ferrari. VANWALL won the title because they did things differently back then – more modern, more progressive, through advanced technology. Like this car here now, which continues the legacy. If he [Tony VANDERVELL] were still alive, he would be very proud – as I am.”

Gone but NEVER forgotten

Sadly, the hour of greatest triumph turned into a tragedy for the VANWALL team. At the last race of the season in Morocco Bernie Ecclestone’s close friend Lewis-Evans had an accident, and he succumbed to his injuries six days later. It was a huge blow for Tony VANDERVELL, the colourful owner of the team, and he disbanded the organisation in 1960. Sixty years later VANWALL rose like a phoenix from the ashes.

…because legends never die

VANWALL is back. Worldwide! Dr. Colin Kolles, who has served as the managing director and team principal of several F1 teams, has breathed new life into the VANWALL brand. The reincarnation of the Stirling Moss VANWALL is available as an exclusive advanced technology road vehicle in three versions: the VANWALL VANDERVELL H-GT, the VANWALL VANDERVELL N-GT and the VANWALL VANDERVELL Thin Wall Special. The car model’s names are a fitting tribute to Tony VANDERVELL, the brilliant father of the VANWALL brand.

VANWALL has always been best at achieving the impossible

All three versions are based on the E-GMP Most Advanced EV platform. This makes them the most efficient cars on the road with an irresistible high-performance driving experience. The distinctive all-carbon fiber bodywork guarantees unprecedented weight optimisation in this vehicle category. The efficient aerodynamics, sporty chassis and significantly lower weight both increase the range and release the performance of a racing car at the push of a button. The goal is to convey pure emotion combined with ultimate driving pleasure.

QUOTE/STATEMENT DR. COLIN KOLLES

“I was always a convinced petrol-head through my F1 involvement and activities in other racing categories, and thus I was initially a critic of EVs. However, I now have to say that I’m a convert. We wanted to create something new and extreme to achieve heightened emotions and driving pleasure. The development of these electric cars opened up a new world for me. The reactions of people who have seen the VANWALL VANDERVELL are overwhelming. People stop in amazement when they see this car. Thus I know that we have created something truly great and unique, not only from a performance point of view, but also in terms of styling. A car that can be driven like the highest class luxurious limousine, or like a rally/racing car.

Do we have anything comparable on the market in this price segment? I say no. What are the perceived drawbacks with electric cars? The battery range and weight. There are constant developments in the area of batteries that we will also implement in our vehicles as they are proven. However, despite these current advances, weight must be reduced where possible in order to increase the range.

We have therefore decided to build a car with a full carbon fiber body. It is efficient, and represents an enormous weight-saving. No competitor in the luxury high end segment can match that. That is why we are leaders in this segment. I say in this segment, because there are cars made of full carbon – but only at much higher price ranges.

Thanks to decades of experience in F1 and other motorsport categories we are using a carbon construction that no competitor can offer. The carbon body and E-GMP Most Advanced EV platform are an unbeatable combination, which stands for driving emotion, performance and advanced engineering.

And there’s more to come, besides the FIA WEC VANWALL LM Hypercar and LM Hypercar track day versions! Under development are an VANWALL LM Hypercar street version with 1000hp weighing 1000kgs, and a VANWALL hyperbike.”

The objective is to establish VANWALL as a company and brand respected for product performance, efficiency and ultimate engineering standards in the luxury high performance sector of the automotive world.”
